Royal New Zealand Ballet Forced To Cancel Whanganui Tutus on Tour 2023 Performance

The affected performance was due to take place at the Royal Whanganui Opera House on Wednesday 1 March 2023.

Whanganui District Council’s Manager of Venues and Events Dana Burnett says, “We are devastated we are not going to be able to host the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s Tutus on Tour as planned. Following a recent review of the building, which recognised the need for a temporary structure to be installed to ensure comprehensive safety of all staff and performers in this production, we investigated every option but have sadly realised the timeframe is too short to ensure full installation and testing. We love having the RNZB in town, so very much look forward to the next visit.”

Ticket sales for this performance of Tutus on Tour, Wednesday, 1 March at the Royal Whanganui Opera House, have been suspended and the ticketing agency will contact all current ticket holders directly to offer a full refund.

The remaining performances in the Tutus on Tour 2023 across the motu are going ahead as planned. Opening in Kāpiti on 23 February before travelling to Hastings, Carterton, Gisborne, Hamilton, Blenheim, Nelson, Kerikeri, Ashburton and Whangārei, the 70th Anniversary season of Tutus on Tour looks back with affection at the RNZB’s early days and travels through time.
